Jazz Poetry Lives! Apollo is Risen!
It is a rare event when a book of contemporary poetry resonates with the sheer joy of its own musicality, but, thankfully, such is the instance with Ed Coletti's "Apollo Blue's Harp and the Gods of Song." The life adventures of the fictitious hero of the title, the mythic blues harpist, Apollo Blue (Coletti's alter-ego? Male muse? Beatific vision?) are interspersed with pierian conceits such as triolets, and fan poems to John Coltrane (or should I say a follower's testament to John Coltrane, as in one, whom like Coletti, seeks to follow the Coltrane of the Church of John Coltrane?). "Apollo Blue's Harp and the Gods of Song" is a poetry lover's passion, a jazz lover's orgy of delight, and a jazz poetry enthusiast's rainbow of song with a pot of Solid Gold in the gloaming! Bravo, Maestro Coletti, encore!
