Don't Buy Used
Perhaps they've updated it, but the used version I purchased is pretty worthless. The copyright on the copy I purchased was 2003. Almost all the questions are about steam engines and old boilers, some of them hand fired by coal. I haven't gone through the whole book yet, but I have not come across even one question on turbines yet, which is a very big error for a book published in 2003. I can't say whether the 2013 version has been updated, but the book I have was about 75 years outdated by 2003, let alone now. I have a copy of "Principal Stationary Engineer" copyright 2015. That one's alright, but even with that, the questions seemed to be from the 60's or 70's, not current times. I'd recommend going to massengineers.com. They have quite a few good questions there that actually appear on tests. Some people have put flash cards online as well. It would be nice if NRC would make a book that would reflect questions on modern tests. It's unfortunate that there are not any really good question and answer books for modern steam engineering.
