Lost Opportunity
Reluctantly, I have to say that this game was a disappointment.I played this with 3 other people, and all of us are boardgames fans. We were all disappointed with the gameplay and to quote my friend, "there is nothing actually tranformer-ey about it". To be concise:Pros:- Coloured booklet- Some nice use of the main characters imagery- Well detailed army figures, based on Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Megatron and Starscream (and us humans, of course).Cons:- Power cards and Territory cards are indistinguishable from each other on the reverse side, so get easily muddled.- Power cards text is illegible - you simply struggle to read the tiny and blurry printed text! Most of the cards have one, large icon of the autobots, deceptions or some other logo, and doesn't really add anything. The space is actually much needed for the teeny-weeny text.- Power cards are not easy to understand and the rulebook doesn't help to clarify them. Power cards are the main opportunity to make this game unique and it is completely wasted. We ended up discarding them in our first turn (round) as we weren't sure when to play them and so we discarded them in the first turn so as to avoid the negative effects in later turns.- The rulebook is poorly written and omits certain information. In general, the gameplay depends on the decepticons coming from the outside edges of the board and invading inwards and claiming as many territories as possible. It was clear to us that the way to win this game is to claim the territories with the 1 single human on as soon as possible (basically a monopoly style rush to buy as many unbought addresses as possible) and whoever has the most basically wins. The power cards and the way the autobots fight back do not allow for any significant variation away from this and therefore, the person who land grabs the fastest, wins. The turns thereafter are minor tussles which will determine who gets first or second place, between the first or second place player at the time.I have paid £25 for a game I will honestly never play again. This saddens me as a I love retro transformers and was hoping for a Risk experience comparable to the excellent Star Wars (Original Trilogy) Risk or the equally excellent Metal Gear Solid Risk. Both of these latter games make great use of their own unique and individual elements, and this is where the Transformers risk is lacking.

A must for Transformer fans!
Excellent addition to the Risk world. The rules are slightly different to normal Risk, however they are easy to understand and for any Transformers fan who likes Risk this is a must! Brilliant concept, with Humans starting on every continent, later backed up with Autobots, and Decepticons coming in from 4 corners of the map! Let the fight for Energon and Earth begin!!!
