Great quality
Beautiful and great quality! Excited delve back into Greek mythology. The print is small tho, so make sure to have your reading glasses!

Academically Praised Translation - Beautiful Set
The box has a cloth bound hardback feel, the actual naked hardbacks are a smooth paper feel, and they have a glued binding. The only “flaw” I’ve found with this set is that the box is slightly wider than you would expect so the book will slid in and out quite freely. Other than that these editions are beautiful and sturdy.

Excellent Translation
I enjoyed this modern translation of both books. It spoke to me in ways that I could relate to. The footnotes also helped a great deal. The Illiad, especially, was enjoyable.

Poetry!
My daughter asked for these. When we received them, I was very impressed by their quality. They are beautiful and will look nice on anyone's bookshelf.

Loving it!
I'm only 80 pages deep, but this translation is nicely done for a novice as myself with Illiad. The introduction really helped me as I went on into the main book. I recommend reading the introduction first. Also, the books themselves are nicely made too. Look forward to the Odyssey next!

A ”New” Translation
New to me but what drew me to this one is that it was by Peter Green. Now Peter Green was the original guitar player for Fleetwood Mac, but who knew he was a classics scholar as well?Sadly, it turns out this is not the same Peter Green, and I don’t know if he actually even plays guitar, but his translation is interesting and worth a look.I have read almost every translation of the Iliad since Lattimore (Graves, Fitzgerald, Fagles, Lombardo, Mitchell, and Caroline Alexander) and Peter Green’s is right up there.Spoiler, the Trojan Horse and Brad Pitt do not make an appearance in this translation, any more than they did in the previous ones.Forewarned is Forearmed.

Odyssey/The Illiad Penguin box set
A very nice set. It looks good and the binding is sturdy. It should last many years of use and still look presentable on the shelf. The poetic translation is the best I know of. A poetic translation is always suspect because either meaning, tone or the poetic phrases will have to be sacrificed at certain (usually frequent) points. This one goes quite a ways in the direction of maintaining the feel of the original, and staying poetic - a least better than any other translation I know of. The original has a sound and movement in its meter that is unmatched and this translation does not match it, but it does occasionally remind me of the original, and there are a very few, if any, really awkward phrases. The text is also approachable by someone who is not a classical expert, another problem with many translations. Not a masterpiece, but it does allow you to get glimpses of the masterpiece that is the original. It is a very approachable and enjoyable translation, and the best thing out there for these very important, enjoyable, imaginative, and pivotal works in Western literature.
