imation Portable SSD i9, External Solid State Drive, Speeds Up to 1,100MB/s USB 3.2 Gen2 for Windows, Mac OS, Linux, iOS, and Android (Deep Green, 2TB)

Being a little paranoid about storage devices from Amazon, I connected this SSD to a virtual machine and ran some basic analyses to make sure it was safe. I checked for hidden partitions and encrypted file systems and scanned for malware. Nothing suspicious was detected. The drive was formatted ExFAT. I chose to wipe the entire drive which took approximately an hour and a half. I reformatted as NTFS. The drive works great. I don't use large files in my workflow so I don't have need for blazing read/write speeds. This drive is fast enough for my use, never gets hot, and is light weight and very portable. The only downside was that I ordered the green one and received the pink one instead.

It's so tiny that it's impressive that it has a capacity of 1 Terabyte. Really remarkable engineering when you think about it. It's also very light, weighing exactly 40g or 1.41oz - about the same as a couple of AA batteries.I've included screen captures of benchmarks; one with the drive connected to my USB-A 3.1 port and another via my USB-C port. It's the same computer, one test run right after the other. You can see that near the advertised speed is achieved by using the USB-C connection. It's possible that the same results could be achieved by using a USB-A v3.2, but I don't have one. Using my older technology v3.1 is only half the speed, which is still pretty fast for most uses.The drive comes already formatted and ready to use; just plug it in. No setup or software installation required, which I appreciate. The cable is only about 9 inches long, but that's plenty. No matter where you plug it in, it's so light that it doesn't tug on the connection.I didn't notice any heat coming from the drive even after extended file transfers. It's completely silent too, which is expected for an SSD but still nice to confirm.I plugged it into my Android phone and used it with a file management app. Although I have no practical need to use it with my phone, it does work. This could be useful for transferring large files or media without using cloud services.For the price, this drive delivers excellent performance and convenience without any obvious compromises. The combination of size, speed, and capacity makes it easy to recommend.

Had been looking for a small and fast self contained SSD for media storge and transfer. Arrived in good condition, well packed in full retail display packaging. Included connecting cable is extremely short, only about three inches, which limits the flexibility in connection and usage without purchasing a longer cable to use. Unit looks well constructed with an attractive design and aluminum housing, capacity appears as advertised when connected, and transfer speeds when connected to an appropriate USB port also appear to be as advertised. The other issue taking away a star beyond the short cable is that the incorrect color was shipped, ordered dark green and received rose gold. Poor order fulfillment by either the manufacturer or Amazon, disappointing either way.

Great portable drive from imation! Imation has been making things for quite awhile, and this product is fantastic. Unlike a USB flash drive, which very often have much slower speeds, this drive operates MUCH faster. I was able to easily hit over 750MB/s on my older generation USB-C port on my computer, which transferred a full 20GB video file in less than 30 seconds. Because it uses USB-C, I was able to plug it into my android phone as well. It also comes in a super attractive form factor and design; I ordered the green one but was accidentally shipped the Rose Gold one, which was the one I wanted anyway (it wasn't available at time of order) so I'm not disappointed. 😊 It also has a nice chrome border around it which really makes it pop, as well as a lanyard loop if you so desire. Highly recommend!

This imation 1TB Portable SSD Drive is only 2.95 inches x 1.53 inches. The Transfer Speed to backup just under 1TB of data on a MacBook Pro USB-C 3.1 was less than 1 hour. That is blazing speed compared to older technologies. The imation drive comes with an optional USB-C to USB-A Adapter. The transfer rate of USB 3.0, 3.1, 3.2 is so much faster that older USB versions that this SSD Drive is a useful upgrade. The SSD Drives are also much more reliable than older technologies. This product is also sold in 2TB and 4TB versions.

This thing is cute and fits in a front pocket comfortably. The outer case looks sturdy enough that I would travel around with it in pocket as-is. You can also attach a lanyard or keying to it. The drive comes formatted as ExFAT with a MBR partition table. I was able to copy files between macOS, Windows, and Linux with the default setup. I get about 850MB/s read and write on macOS and closer the 950 MB/s on Fedora Linux. The drive barely warms up under extensive use and never got hot to the touch as I read and wrote multi-gigabyte files.

I haven't seen external SSDs in awhile, so I don't know what the market/state-of-the-art is like, but I'm really impressed with how small this thing is. It really is about the length and width of a credit card (but not the depth/thickness). The included USB C cable seems to transfer data well, but the USB C to A adapter seems to get in the way of that. My PS5 wouldn't register this as a fast enough data transfer SSD when I was attaching using the USB-A adapter, but it *did* register it as fast enough without the adapter. Otherwise, it is 1TB storage as expected, and the transfer times are pretty fast.
